The City of Beaumont is planning to close the mid-block left turn pocket located on Highland Springs Avenue in the southbound direction south of the I-10 freeway. The closure is scheduled to begin on March 12, 2018.

Currently, the existing mid-block left turn pocket allows vehicular traffic to enter into the Sun Lakes Village Shopping Center in the City of Banning at the entrance between the Mobile Gas Station and Mattress Firm. There are several safety concerns with this turning movement such as: the movement is uncontrolled (i.e. un-signalized), low visibility due to northbound traffic and the left turning traffic must cross three (3) northbound lanes prior to entering the shopping center.

The proposed closure at this time is temporary in nature and done so for the purpose of observing the traffic impacts. Once the impacts are observed the City of Beaumont and the City of Banning will make a final determination to pursue a possible permanent closure of the mid-block left turn pocket.
